My Freshman Year is Coming to an End

This year has been very eventful for me. I have lost friends that I thought would be there forever, but I have also made many new friends that I never really talked to until this year. My favorite memory for this school year is from when the softball and baseball team went to Florida for spring break. I made several memories that I will never forget there. I have learned many things this year, and one of them is that you always need to focus on your grades. Freshman year is the most important of your four years to concentrate on grades. Another thing I have learned this year, is that you can't always trust everyone. I have three pieces of advice for the up-coming freshmen next year and they are: focus on grades, make new friends, and don't be shy!

What I Learned About Slaves

The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman

is about a woman telling a story about her whole life. This novel tells you about what slaves went through back then. Before reading this book, I knew what a slave was, but I didn’t know much about what they went through. I didn’t know that the slaves ever had a choice to either stay on the plantation or leave on their own. I also learned that when the slaves were let free, some of the plantation owners would let them take some food with them on their journey. This novel is a really good read if you want to learn more about what the slaves went through during that time.

White People Stereotypes in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman

In English class we are reading The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, and it is a book about slaves being freed and they are trying to go north. In this book, there are many stereotypes that aren't true at all. One of the major stereotypes is that everyone thinks that all of the white people were bad. Most of the white people were mean to the slaves, but there are also a lot of white people who were good to the slaves. One example of a white person that was not falling into that stereotype was the old man that let Jane and Ned into his house and gave them food while he showed them the right way to Ohio. Another example of a white person not falling under that stereotype is when Job gave Jane and Ned a ride on his cart and gave them a place to sleep and food. Job also took them to Mr. Bone to get some work. There are many more stereotypes in this book, but that is the main one showed.

Why You Should Watch Law and Order S.V.U

Law and Order S.V.U. (Special Victims Unit) is one of my favorite show because of 3 reasons. The first reason is because I love watching crime shows, so if you love watching those kind of shows you should definitely try watching Law and Order. The second reason I recommend, or like Law and Order is because Olivia and Elliot, which are the main characters and they are partners, have a very special bond like brother and sister. The third reason I recommend Law and Order is because you get to see trials that are a lot like real life trails that we don't get to see. This picture shows the whole cast, and Elliot and Olivia are the middle to that are in the front.

Animal Farm vs. Business People

In English class we have read the book Animal Farm. In the book, the pigs and dogs are trying to take over the other animals and pretty much turn into humans. You can compare the pigs to business people who are trying to get normal people to sign contracts without reading the circumstances. The animals that the pigs tried to take over would be compared to normal people. There are many other comparisons, but this is the first one that came to mind for me.

What I'm Most Thankful for

This year has been very tough for me, especially lately, and that makes me appreciate things a lot more. The thing that I am most thankful for is definitely my mom. She is the best thing in the world to me and I don't always show it. Another thing I am very thankful for is my little sister. We may fight most of the time, but she is truly my best friend. I am also very thankful for my grand-daddy, he is amazing and my hero. I am very, very thankful for Mrs. Sanders and Mrs. Townsend, they are very supportive and that is nice to know. I don't know what I would do without any of these people in my life, and I thank God everyday.

Career Day

Today, we had career day at school. We picked four different session choices to go visit, and I picked nursing, dentistry, ER medicine, and social work/psychotherapy. My favorite was social work/psychotherapy. I didn't think that it would be that interesting, but it really is! I really liked hearing Kim tell us all of her stories about the crazy things her patients have done. One thing I learned while I was listening to her was, the difference between schizophrenia and multiple personalities. I never knew there was a difference between the two, and that's pretty cool! After listening to her, I am really considering that field for my future job. Another choice I am considering is nursing. The past year I have really started thinking about nursing. Surprisingly dentistry was the most boring one today, and I have always wanted to go into hygiene.
